2021 OCTOBER EPOMAKER KEYBOARD REVIEW: GK87 KIT, NT68, B21, HONEY-MILK KEYCAP SET

'The plate is powdercoated white on a steel base and only held in place with some screws. This allows for modding the plate color, or even switching to a different plate should you be enterprising enough. A foam support under the space bar key dampens the keystroke there, and this is also the best time to take a look at the 5-pin hot-swap switch socket. It allows for increased compatibility with Cherry MX-style mechanical switches, be it the 3-pin or 5-pin variety.'

'Smaller touches have also been considered. The keyboard has a (heavy but well-built) aluminium chassis, features Bluetooth 5.1 and USB-C connectivity and charges via the latter. A wide range of devices are supported, with Windows and Mac modes (with swappable modifier keycaps to boot), and helpful Mac function key legends on the top row.'

'Another nice 65 percent keyboard with retro sensibilities is theΒ Epomaker B21. This one is covered in knobs, with one on each corner to control your computer's volume and the keyboard's lighting brightness, and the F keys have been replaced by media controls, a calculator button, three profiles and a Mac/Windows toggle.'

'Honey-milk is designed in universal MX structure that can work with most switches in the market that has MX structure and its clones, such as Gateron, Kailh, Cherry, Otemu etc. Plenty of keycaps in different sizes will work for different layouts, such as 60%/75%/80%, TKL or full-size keyboard. Get one set and make it all work.'

'The mounting style Akko uses for the Mod 001 is interesting as it is a sandwich mount. Sandwich mount keyboards are held together by screws that are screwed in from under the case, which is both good and bad. The good part is that by doing this, it provides a uniform sound profile amongst the board, but the tradeoff is that disassembly is a bit convoluted if you want to take the keyboard apart.Β '
